Facial Paralysis vs Synkinesis
There is often confusion between Facial Paralysis and Facial Synkinesis. Facial Paralysis is when one side of the face doesn’t move at all. The muscles almost appear dead. This typically happens right away when people first get the paralysis. Synkinesis, on the other hand, is different than paralysis. As the nerve heals it can overcorrect and actually make wrong connections and get cross-wired. This is when a person attempts to make one movement with their face, but another movement happens instead.
